IK\u00c9MATO
<\/strong><\/span>Brand\u2019s name story
<\/strong>When I looked up<\/span> for my brand\u2019s name I thought : Whisper, Iki, Sasayaki, Textile talking, Hisohiso,.<\/span>
But, every word was already taken.<\/span>
I wondered:what really matters for me in life ? <\/strong> Which value is crucial ? It is Peace ,<\/strong> respect of life\u2019s dignity.
<\/strong>The value itself; the decision of peace takes centre stage in my life.<\/span>
I then created IK\u00c9MATO \u30a4\u30b1\u30de\u30c8<\/strong> joining the beginning of three family names. <\/strong>Daisaku IK\u00c9<\/strong>DA (1928-), Tsunesaburo MA<\/strong>KIGUCHI (1871-1944) and Josei TO<\/strong>DA (1900 \u2013 1958) three men deeply involved in Peace.

DIVERSITY
<\/strong>For me, it is diversity that creates harmony<\/strong>,<\/span>
I work with vintage, pre-loved Japanese kimonos, making new items. One day, I want to combine them <\/strong> with Beninese patterns<\/strong> ; tie them to European textile design<\/strong> \u2013 Kiripi Katembo, a Congolese photographer, made me want to create discussion <\/strong> between Kyoto and Kinshasa<\/strong> patterns<\/strong> and textile fabrics<\/strong>. To go further<\/span>
Plurals<\/strong>– Multiples – Differences \u2013 Rejects ,that\u2019s what makes us human<\/strong> And that\u2019s what matters to me : our interdependence. Our correlations<\/strong>, reliances and complementarity<\/strong> \u2013 Weaving bonds.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

PATTERNS : L<\/strong>ines<\/strong> and Drawings
To Japan,<\/strong> I wentto find out about shaping textile<\/strong> \u2013 how could I create a voluminous design from a flat, versatile and smooth material like textile? Would origami be helpful ? Is gravity<\/strong> less in Japan?<\/span>
I caught glimpses of possibilities<\/strong> to create three-dimensional pieces, but above all, I found drawings<\/strong>, paintings \u2013 seasons and lines. These vintaged designed lines from weaver\u2019s hands<\/strong>, I shipped by boat<\/strong> as a present for my return.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

UPCYCLING
Extend our lives
<\/strong>I exclusively work with vintage garments \u2013 kimonos. By chance \u2013 those of japanese side lanes : the language, desire, encounters <\/span>
I love the stretch of life lived on textile<\/strong>material; the distorted stories of lives<\/strong>, its wear and tear<\/strong> \u2013 their past steals a glance towards the future.<\/span>
