My Travels to Japan<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

One day I discovered Tomoko Nakamichi’s work<\/strong>about patronage, its sphere effects, accordion pleats, knots ; sets of lines sketching a bamboo shoot.<\/span>
She was teaching in Kyoto.<\/span>
So, I<\/strong> started studying Japanese, in order to meet her<\/strong>in Kyoto<\/span>
Adding volume to the shapes I was making.<\/span>
I had been sewing for a few years now – it seemed to me that her work would be easy to achieve.<\/span>
This was in June 2014.<\/span>
In October 2015<\/strong> I went to Kyoto for 3 months to intensively study Japanese and to meet her.<\/span>
I was staying<\/strong> in the Nishijin district with Mitsu\u00eb Sakaguchi san<\/strong>, an elderly weaver.<\/strong><\/span>
I lived among silent looms<\/strong> and spools of thread.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

This whispers thousand of images<\/strong>.<\/span>
This trip to Kyoto, \u4eac \u90fd\u5e02 was a revelation: it is thanks to this voyage that my work found its way, its dimension and gained depth. <\/span>Movements of the journey of the body and of the self.
<\/span>Before leaving I was able to come into contact with Ms. Yoshimi Ueki who agreed to teach me kimono-related sewing – Wasai \u548c \u88c1 sewing. <\/b>
<\/span>I don’t want to become an expert in the art of Kimono making, that would be impossible anyway.
<\/span>I want to get<\/span> closer<\/strong> – approach the garment, come near that “T” shape<\/strong>.
<\/span>cheerful and surprising encounter : I watched Miss Azusa Ikemori and Yoshimi Ueki at work – their gestures<\/strong> were always regular, light, airy<\/strong> – a dance. A fluid and poetic rhythm \u2013 an artistic gesture.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

I struggle to get the hang of this gesture, in the middle of our joyful and concentrated silence.<\/span>
The Japanese thimble, positioned on the second phalanx of the middle finger, is a rather uncomfortable surprise. <\/span>
I appreciate what the art of ancestral and cultural gestures can truly signify.<\/span>
After each class I can choose scraps of fabric that had once, made up an entire kimono. <\/span>
On approaching the garment, I discover the patterns <\/strong> : delightful surprise.<\/span>
I came <\/strong>to Japan to look for volume , I find drawing<\/strong> at first,<\/span>
These patterns<\/strong> fascinate me. <\/span>
These kimono scraps-drops have become my treasures<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

One night in November I have to rush back to France – I take my pieces of patterns and kimonos with me.<\/strong><\/span>
I will be back for 3 months in Kyoto in October 2016<\/strong>, at Mitsu\u00eb Sakaguchi san ever. Travel continuation<\/strong>, open pathways, other discoveries.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
